The Giving Angels is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to get homeless veterans off the streets and into homes. Homelessness doesn't just affect the homeless, but has a trickle down effect to their families. TGA's founder, Lynda Sunshine West, knows this all too well. "My husband (Scott) and his brother (Jimi) served in Vietnam. The Jimi that Scott knew for all those years growing up never came back home. Instead, he came home with mental illness. His mental illness eventually led to him being homeless for 7 years. When Jimi became homeless, it affected our family, too, because Scott yearned for the brother he had lost. After 7 years of being homeless, Jimi was granted enough disability from the government to put a roof over his head. This one simple gesture of having a safe place to sleep changed everything for Jimi, Scott and our family. With homelessness comes lack of dignity and we aim to bring dignity back to those who put their life on the line to protect our freedom."
Jackie Robinson said, "The most luxurious possession, the richest treasure anybody has, is his personal dignity."
